Index Stats

Written 01-19-2024

On the various Pokemon pages, there are a few stats that I've created myself -- two of which are the "index" stats which measure a Pokemon's performance (via win rate) compared to some average. These stats aim to show how well a Pokemon does against various playerbases.

Stomper Index

Stomper Index, formerly known as "FRee Against UnderDeveloped player" (FrAUD) Index, is a stat which aims to measure performance of a Pokemon into newer players. To do this, we first classify a good player as someone that has a 50% or higher win rate and has played in at least 5 recorded battles that weren't forfeit / won on activity. The battle requirements help weed out players that have played in one tournament and went 2-1 or 2-2. Stomper Index takes three inputs:

  1. Pokemon Win Rate
  2. Pokemon Win Rate against good players (as described above)
  3. The average drop in the above two values across all qualified Pokemon.

The equation to calculate stomper index is Item 1 - Item 2 + Item 3. This means that positive numbers are indicative of a Pokemon doing better versus new players as opposed to good players, while negative numbers are indicative of a Pokemon not necessarily doing better into new players. An example of this is a Pokemon who has a 50% win rate against all players and a 33% win rate against good players, while the average drop is 15%. This gets fed into the above formula as 50 - 33 + (-15) to return 2 -- meaning that this Pokemon does better into new players, compared to good players, than the average qualified Pokemon. Pokemon with historically high Stomper indices that "stomp" newer players that do not know how to prepare for them include Raikou and Gyarados. Those with low stomper indices include Smeargle and Magneton.

Fraud Index

The other index, Fraud Index, is a stat which aims to measure performance of a Pokemon specifically into the aforementioned good players. Fraud Index just takes two inputs:

  1. Pokemon Win Rate against good players
  2. The average qualified Pokemon's win rate into good players

From here, it's a simple subtraction of Item 2 - Item 1 to get the Fraud Index. This means that positive numbers are worse, unlike Stomper index, and mark the Pokemon as "fraudulent". Negative numbers are indicative of a Pokemon performing better than average into good players. An example of this is a Pokemon who has a 40% win rate into good players when the average qualified Pokemon's win rate is 35% -- this would make the Fraud Index -5, marking this Pokemon as great against good players compared to the average. Pokemon with historically high Fraud indices that are worse into better players include Breloom and Medicham. Those with low fraud indices include Regice and Celebi.
