Summary

Machamp is one of the best Fighting-types in ADV Draft, with its only real competition being Hariyama. Machamp's Low Kick hits most Pokemon at least for the same amount of damage as Cross Chop, which has a base power of 100, has 100 accuracy unlike Cross Chop, and is harder to PP Stall. Due to his wide movepool including options such as Fire Blast and the elemental punches mixed Machamp is a very viable option versus threats that have a 4x weakness such as Salamence or Gyarados which are both 2HKO'd without much investment by Ice Punch and Thunder Punch, respectively, making your opponent think twice before switching them in vs Machamp. With his decent special bulk, Machamp actually wins 1v1 situations against surprising opponents such as Gengar and Alazakam. In a meta where Toxic is such a strong move, the threat of its ability Guts essentially making this a base 195 attack stat forces opponents to think thoughtfully about using Toxic. Machamp also has some more niche tools such as Encore to annoy defensive Pokemon either trying to recover or Pokemon thinking they force a switch to try and set up boosting moves such as Calm Mind. Weezing is a common matchup for Fighting types, but can be beat by Machamp's Substitute + Bulk Up set since at +1 Defense, and with either 56 defense EVs, 80 HP EVs, or a combination of the two, an uninvested Sludge Bomb doesn't break Machamp's Substitute anymore which allows it to freely boost.

About

This page interfaces with a database that I maintain and collect data for from a specific format of Pokemon competition I enjoy called "ADV Draft". If you're new here or to the format, there is a New Player Guide that could be helpful. I have a few posts about this database on this site -- one talking about how I initially went about data storage and some of the stats I use, and another about "graduating" from Google Sheets to a standard relational database and actually setting this part of my website up, and a third about adding more advanced analytics to the site.

I manually update this database as tournaments finish as I don't feel like paying money to host the database separately. The most recent finished tournament I have in the database is Zinc-Tratufo League Season 3, which ended on 2025-12-30. I don't have stats for tournaments in progress here. I also don't have stats for team tournaments.

If you have a tournament with at least 32 players you think I should add to my database or a summary for a Pokemon, give me a shout at the contact info on my home page -- I'll be happy to talk to you! This also applies to custom data requests -- send me an email with the subject "ADV DB Custom Data Request" (or similar) and I'll see what I can do for you!

All sprites are pulled from Smogon and all replays are pulled from Pokemon Showdown. This site uses Stuart Langridge's sorttable script.

Note: Mr. Mime and Farfetch'd are stored as "MrMime" and "Farfetchd", respectively.
